Regarding the Recent Violence Against the Asian Community (again!)

While the murders in and near Atlanta yesterday have not been proven to be racially motivated, the mere appearance of violence against our Asian community is horrifying.  OAE staff wishes to repeat our denunciation of violence against Asian Americans.  We will always stand with you.

While various forms of oppression continue to be pervasive in our society, the staff at the Office of Accessible Education (OAE) recognize the impact that anti-Black racism and anti-Asian racism/xenophobia have had on our Stanford community.

The global Coronavirus pandemic has had a disproportionate impact on people of color, especially the Black, Latinx, and Indigenous communities.  In addition, the alarming rise in hate-filled rhetoric and physical attacks towards Asian-Americans has doubly impacted a community already minoritized by the pandemic.

For OAE, the shared experience of structural inequality and racism in Asian-American and other communities requires us to deepen our work together, and pledge to explore ways on how we can continue to break down structural barriers, and support access.  Our office has spent the last year working to expand our lens of justice to not only incorporate disability justice, but racial justice as well. This is ongoing work, and in doing so we aim to reaffirm our commitment to intersectional advocacy, support, and allyship with the many communities of color that make up our diverse Stanford community, including folks of color along the LGBT+ spectrum.

We at OAE denounce violence against Asian Americans and continue to stand with you.
