On-Campus Parking

Disabled Parking Placards

Stanford honors every state’s DMV disabled placard in all marked parking spaces on campus, including meters, designated blue spaces, service vehicle spaces and permit lots. You may also obtain a California Disabled Person parking placard from the Department of Motor Vehicles website or call 1-800-777-0133 for assistance.

Temporary Disabled Parking

If you have a temporary disability, you may apply for a single temporary “Service Vehicle” courtesy permit good for up to one week from Stanford Transportation. If a permit of longer duration is necessary, you will need to apply for a DMV disability placard.

Freshman Parking Policy

Stanford has a no-freshman-cars-on-campus policy. If any freshmen have a disability-related reason to need their own car on campus, they will need to contact the Office of Accessible Education at 650-723-1066.

On-Campus Transportation

Marguerite Shuttle Buses

Marguerite is Stanford’s free public shuttle service, which travels around campus and connects to nearby transit, shopping, dining, and entertainment. The main shuttle lines traverse the campus Monday – Friday all year (except University holidays). All buses are wheelchair accessible and have bike racks.

DisGo Cart Service

DisGo, now managed by Stanford Transportation, offers complimentary curb-to-curb service to all eligible students, faculty, or staff with a disability or medical condition.  For more information or to schedule your rides, please go to DisGo or call (415) 404-1059.

5-SURE

Operating after sunset (9:00 PM – 1:45 AM), the 5-SURE service employs drivers to accompany Stanford students from one campus location to the next.

Personal Golf Carts

Golf cart-type vehicles are overseen by Stanford Transportation at Stanford University. Contact Stanford Transportation for cart service for individuals with temporary or permanent disabilities.

On-Campus & Local Transportation

Taxi's

Taxi's provide transportation for passengers with folding wheelchairs at no additional charge. Wheelchair accessible vans are not available in the Stanford University vicinity at this time. There are two San Francisco cab companies that have wheelchair accessible vehicles, but they will not come to Stanford for a pick-up. They will however, bring you from the San Francisco airport down to Stanford.

Paratransit Services

VTA ACCESS  Paratransit

VTA ACCESS paratransit is a (paid) transportation service provided to eligible individuals with disabilities who cannot use conventional accessible bus and light rail transit service due to their physical, visual or cognitive disabilities. Paratransit is shared ride public transportation, complementary to fixed route transit service. This means paratransit operates within the same service area and service times as VTA bus and light rail service. Customers can expect multiple pick ups and drop offs along their trips, just like a bus.

Redi-Wheels (SamTrans)

Redi-Wheels is a (paid) transportation service for people with disabilities who cannot independently use regular SamTrans bus service. Redi-Wheels serves San Mateo county and the City of Palo Alto. It operates seven days a week, including holidays, from 5:30 a.m. to midnight and up to 24 hours in some areas (call 650-508-6241 for more information). 24-hour advance notice for reservations is encouraged.
