Students: Important Spring Quarter Announcements!
Dear students,
We hope you had a chance to rest and recharge over Spring Break! As we begin a new quarter, the Office of Accessible Education (OAE) would like to share some important reminders and updates:
- Accommodation Letter Submission - Provide your accommodation letter to your instructors as early in the quarter as possible, even if you are unsure whether you will remain enrolled or drop the course. Faculty need sufficient time to coordinate resources and support your academic accommodation needs. Please note that accommodations are not retroactive.
- Testing Accommodation Deadlines - OAE has implemented new deadlines to receive accommodations for exams and quizzes:
- To implement approved testing accommodations, students must register with OAE, complete their intake appointment, and provide their Accommodation Letter to their professors at least 10 calendar days before the midterm, or quiz, and by Monday of week 9 for any final exams.
- Exceptions may be considered at OAE’s discretion for:
- Extenuating circumstances beyond a student’s control
- Disability conditions that are unplanned in nature
- Final exam schedules - It is your responsibility to review your final exam schedules before the final study list deadline (Friday, April 18th at 5pm) and ensure that you are able to take all of your exams on the date that they are scheduled. If you have conflicts, please reach out to your professor to discuss potential possible alternatives. For reference, here is the link to the University policy regarding End-Quarter Examinations. OAE will not assist in rescheduling an exam due to a timing conflict if you have intentionally enrolled in classes with overlapping exam times.
- Undergraduate Reduced Course Load Accommodation - If you need a Reduced Course Load as a disability-related accommodation, please complete the following steps by the course withdrawal deadline (Week 8 - Friday, May 23 at 5pm) - Note: tuition will not be adjusted for requests after the Final Student List deadline (Week 3 - Friday, April 18):
- Log into OAE | Connect
- Select academic request forms
- Click on the Reduced Course Load (UG) button
- Complete and submit the form
- Assignment Extensions - Please note that if you have assignment extension accommodations, they are not intended to be utilized for every assignment in every class, nor do they automatically extend the due date for all of your assignments in a particular course. They are specifically designed for unexpected disability-related exacerbations that significantly impact your ability to engage on an assignment for a brief period of time.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your Disability Adviser directly. You can find your Disability Adviser's contact information in OAE | Connect under the My Disability Adviser tab.We wish you a great start to your quarter and look forward to continuing to support your access needs.
Best regards,
Office of Accessible Education Disability Advising team
