Moderated by Lindsey Dolich Felt, Ph.D., Advanced Lecturer, Program in Writing and Rhetoric. Join us April 8th for a conversation with author Rachel Kolb ('12, MA’13) about her memoir Articulate (Ecco, 2025). Articulate, which has received rave reviews from the Washington Post and Kirkus Review and was named one of the best audiobooks of 2025 by Audible, explores “the different layers of deafness, language, and voice. She tells the story of how, over time, she came to realize that clear or articulate self-expression isn’t just a static pinnacle to reach, a set of words to pronounce correctly, but rather a living and breathing process that happens between individual human beings.” In her memoir, Kolb “illuminates the stakes and complexities of finding mutual and reciprocal forms of communication.”     A graduate of Stanford University, Rachel was the first signing deaf Rhodes scholar at Oxford before receiving her Ph.D. in English literature from Emory University and then completed a junior fellowship in the Society of Fellows at Harvard University. Her work has been published in The New York Times and The Atlantic, among other venues.Dr. Kolb looks forward to conversing with audience members and an enriching discussion about the ways in which language, voice, and culture can bring us together rather than push us apart.
